A bridge is a fixed replacement for a missing tooth which uses a neighbouring tooth for anchorage and support. 

There are two essential types of bridges: an adhesive (or Maryland) bridge, and a conventional bridge. The first of these options requires only a minimal amount of preparation, so it’s really kind to the supporting tooth. The adhesive bridge is literally stuck onto the adjacent tooth with a special cement. Regardless of how little preparation is required, they are extremely strong and generally have an excellent lifespan. A conventional bridge design is retained by placing a crown on a neighbouring tooth and building an additional tooth on this. Whilst in modern dentistry we tend to fit more adhesive bridges, there are still situations where conventional bridges can be a great option as well.
