Whilst a small amount of preparation is generally required for a ceramic veneer, this is generally a very tiny (around 0.5mm). Many cases being shown on social media carried out overseas (e.g. Turkey) feature overly heavy preparations. These cases generally do not relate to techniques commonly used in the UK.

Porcelain is a type of ceramic. There are now many options for ceramic materials, eMax is a commonly used and excellent modern ceramic utilised
for veneers.

Veneers are bonded to the teeth with an adhesive resin cement. This conveys both strength and grip to the veneers. As a result, even though they are extremely thin, they are extremely strong.

Every case is different, and the longevity of veneers can be influenced by many factors; however, as an average, veneers would require replacement at 10-12 years.

Ceramic is more stain resistant than resin composite. For this reason, in patients with a higher tendency to stain (e.g. in smoking patients) we may recommend ceramic materials as preferable. Asa a general rule, composite materials will need replacing and renewing a lot sooner than ceramic materials.
