Root Canal.

Considering root canal treatment can often trigger anxiety, but don’t fear, at Skipton Road we like to make the procedure super comfortable and routine. Sorry to disappoint the fear mongers! So, what is root canal treatment? Inside every tooth are strands of nerve and blood vessels called the pulp and they sit within the root canal. When the pulp is damaged either by decay or trauma, this can cause pain and infection. In these cases, if we want to keep the tooth, we need to clean out the unhealthy pulp and replace it with a filling material. This seals off the root canal and prevents bugs and bacteria from getting back inside the canal.

FAQ:

There is a common misconception that root canal treatment is painful. Ignore the naysayers! With modern anaesthetics, we are able to provide an excellent level of comfort to complete this procedure pain-free.

Each tooth is treated differently, but most front teeth are generally completed within one visit lasting 1-1.5 hrs. Molar teeth tend to require two visits lasting 1-1.5 hrs each.

At Skipton Road, we have many excellent dentists able to carry out root canal work. However, Tanzeel is our resident root canal geek! He is currently studying for an MSc in endodontics (that’s the fancy word for root canal treatment) and has a high-powered microscope specially used for this procedure.

When is Root Canal Treatment Needed?

Root canal treatment may be required when the inner part of the tooth (the pulp) becomes infected or inflamed. This can be caused by:

  • Deep decay
  • Repeated dental procedures
  • Cracked or damaged teeth
  • Trauma to the tooth

Early treatment can help prevent the need for extraction.
